Proposition: Broadmeadows 3047- Broadmeadows Masterplan
Our competition entry looked ways for Broadmeadows to develop and encourage community cohesion, citizenship and bottom-up sustainable investment. The strategy was to carve the site into many small parcels of land which would encourage small and diverse investors to compliment the big scale developments dominating the sites.
Equally,we imagined the sites developing over considerable time-we imagined a landscape of partial and temporary interventions while the infill spaces gradually filled. Here we pursued an alternative to the static model of the masterplan.
We aimed to accommodate the ad hoc processes that characterise real life in the suburbs, and we aimed to spread both the ownership of land, the design of its spaces, and the participation in it, as widely as possible. To do this, we accepted less control of the total picture.
