Competition entry for the redevelopment of East Darling Harbour, Sydney

This project was a competition entry for the post-port usage of East Darling Habour in Sydney. The competition brief was to redevelop the site as a new commercial, residential and entertainment area. These requirements were attached to the primary design brief for a new large city park.

Our proposal reinvents the historical coastal edge of East Darling Harbour to provide two parks of differing landscapes and activities.
The proposal provides two main park and garden gestures-one at ground level and one at roof level. Ground level park consists of a series of courtyards around the buildings, with a range of varied and intimate scaled spaces cut into the building surface.

These contain heavy planting of tree copses interspaced by open space and playing fields. The ground is effectively doubled by providing a substantial open space over the buildings. These offer a range of formal and informal recreation spaces and surfaces, as well as a large wetland garden for water filtration.
