Joan Peacock House
Plan of the Joan Peacock House
Section through the Peacock House

This house for a single woman was designed from the outset for the eventual possibility of disability and frailty while retaining independence and dignity.

Grandchildren and others are encouraged to visit through the provision of diverse and flexible accommodation. The house offers a rich connection to the outdoors, even if one is confined. During the documentation phase of this project, the client was left unable to walk or balance unaided, following a serious illness.

The design needed only minor adjustments due to the particularity of the disability.
This ESD house utilises a trombe wall and natural (non-mechanical) evaporative cooling.
