This proposal responds to both the existing character and potential of Matiatia Bay. Our core idea was that the new facilities and infrastructure for Matiatia bay could be dispersed within its existing character.
Matiatia Bay’s new architecture and its surrounding activity are integrated within its particular environmental and cultural qualities.
To realise this aim, our design both consolidates and disperses elements. Activities within the bay are grouped into a new platform, delicately placed within the contours of the site. Adjacent to this, the sparseness of the valley floor is preserved whilst being equipped for
events and ephemoral use.
Visitor accomodation, seen as a new form of development for the Bay, is drawn up the valley in order to protect the vacant foreshore and to revitalise existing buildings and structures.
