> ARCHIVE > GVH DOCTORS ACCOMMODATION STAGE 1 & 2, YORTA YORTA COUNTRY

ANTARCTICA are working with Goulburn Valley Health on the design and construction of 33 apartments in Shepparton. The apartments are designed to meet the urgent housing shortage for doctors and are located adjacent to the hospital campus.
The apartments are delivered in 2 stages, comprised of 18 apartments in Stage 1 & 15 apartments in Stage 2.

The dwellings, both short and long term and both two and one bedroom, are arranged over three levels. These sit in open access ways and projecting balconies and importantly within a heavily landscaped garden covering over two thirds of the site.

The project balances a strong emphasis on safety and security with the need to deliver a high quality building that would attract new staff to the region. The apartments form two wings with a central open walkway and landscaped area. This was designed to promote a sense of passive security and wellbeing between residents who work in shifts at the adjacent hospital.
The material palette is neutral, textured and natural.

ANTARCTICA was the landscape architect on the project. Private open spaces for each resident on the ground floor are conceived as natural walled gardens that provide the opportunity for rest. Planting indigenous to the region is specified throughout to create a strong connection to the local environment, as well as to reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

The buildings will achieve a minimum 8 star NatHERS rating - well above the minimum requirement of 6 stars.

Construction begun on both stages of the project in early 2025.
