Murrindal Family Centre in the City of Knox incorporates a wide range of services including childcare, preschool, playgroup space and Maternal and Child Health.

The project was staged with Stage 2 completed in July 2013.
Stage 1 grafted a new children’s room, storage area and children’s amenities onto the existing centre. The project is the latest in a series of additions and responds to the existing rather eclectic mix of architectural elements by collecting a series of smaller volumes under one large verandah. Vast circular holes are extracted from the verandah and children's room to provide a light filled and vibrant space with varied zones for different activities. The outdoor area, set within existing parkland, is accessed from a circular timber deck which extends into the envelope of the children’s room.

Stage 2 includes refurbishments and additions to the Maternal and Child Health Centre, including new meeting facilities, maternal and child health rooms and consulting suites for parental counseling, family support and early intervention. This stage also created a new, single point of entry to the center

A key need for this client was to achieve an integrated and efficient use of the facility that would make it economically sustainable, despite its diversity of use.
