ANTARCTICA worked with Latrobe City Council on the refurbishment and extension of Kernot Hall in Morwell. The project upgrades the existing facility as well as constructing a new extension.

Kernot Hall is a key part of the Morwell community with a rich history as an event venue and community facility. The large brick structure showcases locally made cinnamon bricks.

ANTARCTICA identified the architectural and cultural significance of the hall as a civic landmark, and the refurbishment celebrates the modern heritage of the building.

The refurbishment leaves in tact key design elements including the unfinished brickwork, original timber bulkheads and glazing and complements these through a series of moves including new acoustic timber lining to the hall, new carpet throughout that reflects the original bold patterning of the original carpet and new external paint finishes to the external portico.

Three new meeting rooms to the south form part of a new breakout space to enable the hall to be used for a wider variety of functions.

Construction was completed on the project mid 2023, and Latrobe City Council has since been able to increase events within the township through the delivery of the high quality space.
